Basic Beliefs that I Affirm

There are some things that we cannot know:

We cannot know what tomorrow will bring forth. (Prov. 27:1; Js. 4:13-14)

We cannot know when Christ will return. (Acts 1:6-7, 11; Matt. 24:42)

We cannot know how one is born again. (John 3:6-8)

We cannot know how long we will live on earth. (Js. 4:14)

There are some things, however, that we can know. As Paul wrote, so I also can say: “I know Whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day” (2 Tim. 1:12).

  1. The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses me of all my sins and unburdens my soul of the consciousness of guilt. 1 John 1:7; Heb. 10:22
  2. The Spirit of Holy God dwells in me to seal me as God’s child and to reveal Christ living in and through my life. Eph. 1:13; Rom. 8:9; John 16:14-15; Col. 1:27
  3. The Commission of Christ has taken hold of my heart as the only reasonable response that I can make to the Cross of Christ. Rom. 12:1; Gal. 2:20, 6:14
  4. The church is Christ’s body and His witness on earth; it is dear to the heart of God and it is therefore dear also to me. Matt. 16:13-19; Acts 20:25-28; Eph. 5:20-31; Dan. 12:3
  5. God speaks with absolute authority on every page of the Bible and always has something there that He longs to say to me. 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Sam. 23:1-3; Matt. 5:18
  6. Every faithful witness that I give from God’s Word will bear fruit sometime, somewhere, in some life, and will therefore bring glory to His Name. Isa. 55:11; John 6:51, 63
  7. The Love of Christ is always God’s way for me in every relationship and situation., and it will never motivate or support me in any selfish act or hurtful word or deed. John 13:34-35; 1 John 3:15-17; 1 John 4:20; 1 Cor. 13:4-7
  8. All that God requires of me He will enable me to do, and everything that is needed for doing His will, He will provide. Phil. 4:13, 19; 2 Cor. 9:8; John 15:4-8
  9. I am always welcome in God’s Presence and He gives Personal attention to everything I ask of Him in Jesus’ Name. Heb. 4:14-16; Psa. 37:4; John 14:13-14, 16:23-24, 26-27
  10. Heaven is where I am headed and the farther I walk with Jesus the closer Home I feel that I am. Gen. 5:24; Heb. 7:25, 11:5; John 14:1-6
